It has been in continuous production since then and is nearly universally acclaimed as on of the finest small boats of all time. By 1914 Mr. Herreshoff had a legendary career of designing and building 6 consecutive Americas Cup boats and winning 6 consecutive victories. Beginning construction of the 12 12, his Herreshoff Manufacturing Company built 364 wooden 12 12 boats from 1914 to 1943, when all manufacturing efforts were shifted to World War 2 military productions. In 1947, Cape Cod Shipbuilding Co. acquired the rights to the 12 12 design and switched to fiberglass hulls in 1950. In continuous production since then to today new boats (60,000 -) and all parts and accessories are readily available.
